No. 105 73R7394 KMP-D CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature takes special pleasure in 1-2 honoring Allen Jerald Cooper for his outstanding record of service 1-3 to the students, parents, teachers, and supporters of DeKalb 1-4 Independent School District; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born near DeKalb on May 6, 1930, Mr. Cooper has been 1-6 a resident of Bowie County throughout his life; after graduating 1-7 from James Bowie High School in Simms, he served his country with 1-8 honor and distinction for four years as a member of the United 1-9 States Air Force; and 1-10 WHEREAS, On his return to civilian life, this exemplary 1-11 citizen earned bachelor's and master's degrees at East Texas State 1-12 University; soon after graduation, Mr. Cooper embarked on his 1-13 career in education as an elementary school teacher and principal 1-14 in the Malta Independent School District for 10 years; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Known to all for his courage, compassion, and 1-16 commitment, this esteemed educator spent 28 years in service to the 1-17 DeKalb Independent School District before he retired as 1-18 superintendent in June 1992; named Region 8 Superintendent of the 1-19 Year in 1992, he also was active in the Texas Association of School 1-20 Boards and the Texas Association of School Administrators; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Dedicated to making DeKalb a better place in which 1-22 to live and work, Mr. Cooper has played a leading role in many 1-23 local civic organizations, including the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce 1-24 and the DeKalb Industrial Foundation; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Despite his many civic and professional activities, 2-2 this fine gentleman is above all else a devoted husband and father 2-3 who enjoys a happy and rewarding marriage with his wife, Pat, and 2-4 who takes great pride in the accomplishments of his four children, 2-5 Denise Duey, Michelle Price, Laura Thompson, and Thomas Cooper; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The efforts of this distinguished Texan to improve 2-7 the quality of education in this state are indeed worthy of special 2-8 legislative recognition and support; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-10 hereby honor Allen Jerald Cooper for his exemplary record of 2-11 service to the DeKalb Independent School District; and, be it 2-12 further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mr. Cooper as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Legislature of the State of Texas.
