H.C.R. No. 106
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, Poetry immortalizes the spirit of the age and the
1-2 cultural heritage by which it was inspired; and
1-3 WHEREAS, Recognizing outstanding poets in this state by
1-4 bestowing on them titles of honor is a worthy tribute and serves as
1-5 an encouragement to other talented Texas poets; and
1-6 WHEREAS, It is appropriate that the Legislature of the State
1-7 of Texas designate as Poet Laureate one who has exhibited
1-8 exceptional ability in capturing the beauty of this state, some
1-9 facet of its history, or the proud spirit of its people; now,
1-10 therefore, be it
1-11 RESOLVED by the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas, That
1-12 a committee be created to designate a Poet Laureate for the State
1-13 of Texas for the year beginning July 1, 1993, and ending June 30,
1-14 1994, and a Poet Laureate for the year beginning July 1, 1994, and
1-15 ending June 30, 1995; and, be it further
1-16 RESOLVED, That the committee be composed of three members of
1-17 the house to be appointed by the speaker and three members of the
1-18 senate to be appointed by the lieutenant governor; and, be it
1-19 further
1-20 RESOLVED, That a person designated as Poet Laureate of Texas
1-21 be a superior and recognized poet who is a citizen of the State of
1-22 Texas.
