No. 106 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 10, 1993; 1-3 May 11, 1993, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Administration; May 20, 1993, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0; May 20, 1993, sent to printer.) 1-6 COMMITTEE VOTE 1-7 Yea Nay PNV Absent 1-8 Haley x 1-9 Moncrief x 1-10 Ellis x 1-11 Montford x 1-12 Shapiro x 1-13 Truan x 1-14 Turner x 1-15 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-16 WHEREAS, Poetry immortalizes the spirit of the age and the 1-17 cultural heritage by which it was inspired; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Recognizing outstanding poets in this state by 1-19 bestowing on them titles of honor is a worthy tribute and serves as 1-20 an encouragement to other talented Texas poets; and 1-21 WHEREAS, It is appropriate that the Legislature of the State 1-22 of Texas designate as Poet Laureate one who has exhibited 1-23 exceptional ability in capturing the beauty of this state, some 1-24 facet of its history, or the proud spirit of its people; now, 1-25 therefore, be it 1-26 RESOLVED by the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas, That 1-27 a committee be created to designate a Poet Laureate for the State 1-28 of Texas for the year beginning July 1, 1993, and ending June 30, 1-29 1994, and a Poet Laureate for the year beginning July 1, 1994, and 1-30 ending June 30, 1995; and, be it further 1-31 RESOLVED, That the committee be composed of three members of 1-32 the house to be appointed by the speaker and three members of the 1-33 senate to be appointed by the lieutenant governor; and, be it 1-34 further 1-35 RESOLVED, That a person designated as Poet Laureate of Texas 1-36 be a superior and recognized poet who is a citizen of the State of 1-37 Texas. 1-38 * * * * * 1-39 Austin, 1-40 Texas 1-41 May 20, 1993 1-42 Hon.
