By Johnson H.C.R. No. 115 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On June 4 and 5, 1993, the community of Nacogdoches 1-2 will celebrate its third annual blueberry festival; and 1-3 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of 1-4 Commerce with the support of the Texas Blueberry Growers 1-5 Association, the popular event will feature a blueberry cookoff 1-6 contest, a blueberry pancake breakfast hosted by the local Kiwanis 1-7 Club, and a chance for visitors to purchase delectable wares at the 1-8 much-anticipated blueberry sale; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Promising to be a fun-filled event for the entire 1-10 family, the festival will offer a variety of other entertainment 1-11 opportunities as well, including arts and crafts, street 1-12 entertainment, a doll parade, a petting zoo and pet show, and a 1-13 host of athletic events; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The citizens of Nacogdoches County are justifiably 1-15 proud of their tasty blueberry crops; with 80 acres of land planted 1-16 in blueberry bushes, the county earns distinction as the largest 1-17 grower of blueberries in the state and is the center of blueberry 1-18 production in the State of Texas; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Enhancing the local economy through increased 1-20 tourism and agricultural production, the third annual blueberry 1-21 festival is a splendid addition to our state's recreational 1-22 opportunities and is truly deserving of special legislative 1-23 recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby recognize the blueberry festival in Nacogdoches as the 2-2 official Texas Blueberry Festival and commend all those associated 2-3 with it for their hard work in ensuring the success of this popular 2-4 event; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the citizens of Nacogdoches as an expression of high 2-7 regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
