                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, This year marks a significant milestone in the
    1-2  history of one of our state's most beloved attractions, the 25th
    1-3  anniversary of San Antonio's HemisFair; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The site of the 1968 Texas World's Fair, the city of
    1-5  San Antonio was transformed by the coming of this event, which
    1-6  occasioned the extension of the picturesque River Walk and the
    1-7  construction of HemisFair Plaza; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Today, the plaza remains a focal point for downtown
    1-9  entertainment and recreation; visitors to the Alamo City can take a
   1-10  trip to the top of the 750-foot Tower of the Americas, where they
   1-11  can experience fine dining in the tower's two-level restaurant or
   1-12  step out onto its observation deck for a panoramic view of downtown
   1-13  San Antonio; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Displays on 26 ethnic and cultural groups are
   1-15  available for viewing at the plaza's Institute of Texan Cultures,
   1-16  and the nearby Mexican Cultural Institute draws thousands of
   1-17  sightseers to its doors each year with exhibits of many fine
   1-18  contemporary Mexican artists; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The area also features foreign-accented restaurants
   1-20  and food booths, tree-shaded walkways and gardens, and a
   1-21  breathtaking water park complete with waterfalls, wading pools, and
   1-22  observation decks; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Though it occurred 25 years ago, HemisFair
   1-24  acquainted many visitors with the beauty and charm of this
    2-1  multicultural city for the first time, and the event has left a
    2-2  lasting legacy that will surely continue to be enjoyed by
    2-3  generations of Texans for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas,
    2-5  Regular Session, 1993, hereby congratulate the citizens of San
    2-6  Antonio on the 25th anniversary of HemisFair; and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-8  prepared for the city of San Antonio as an expression of high
    2-9  regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
