                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, For more than a century, the present State Capitol
    1-2  in Austin has served as a proud symbol of freedom and liberty for
    1-3  residents of the Lone Star State; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, In 1976, the imposing red granite statehouse was
    1-5  further enhanced by the addition of six beautiful mosaic seals
    1-6  representing the nations that have governed Texas; these seals were
    1-7  executed and installed on the north and south fascia of the Capitol
    1-8  by Stasswender Marble and Granite Works of Austin; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, In a fitting tribute to our state's rich heritage,
   1-10  there is a seal to reflect the governance of Texas by Imperial
   1-11  Spain, from 1519 to 1685 and 1690 to 1821; of Texas under France,
   1-12  from 1685 to 1690; of Texas under Mexico, from 1821 to 1836; of
   1-13  Texas as a Republic, from 1836 to 1845; of Texas in the
   1-14  Confederacy, from 1861 to 1865; and of Texas in the United States,
   1-15  from 1845 to 1861 and 1865 to the present; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, With the recent renovation and expansion of the
   1-17  Capitol, the mosaic seals were taken down from their rightful place
   1-18  on the Capitol and removed from sight; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The restoration of these mosaic tiles to the
   1-20  exterior of the State Capitol would ensure that this important
   1-21  tribute to the historic eras of Texas would once again be available
   1-22  to be enjoyed by future generations of Texans; now, therefore, be
   1-23  it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-1  hereby direct the State Preservation Board to restore to the north
    2-2  and south sides of the Capitol the mosaic seals of the six nations
    2-3  that have governed Texas; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-5  prepared for the State Preservation Board as an expression of the
    2-6  sentiment of the Legislature of the State of Texas.
