                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, On the second Tuesday in January of odd-numbered
    1-2  years, the members of the legislature willingly put their everyday
    1-3  lives on hold to gather in Austin to attempt to resolve situations
    1-4  of pressing import to the state and to find innovative ways to
    1-5  contribute to the economic and social well-being of the
    1-6  constituencies they serve; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Initially, excitement is in the air as an influx of
    1-8  both seasoned veterans and idealistic new members join together to
    1-9  address these issues but, as the session progresses, tempers can
   1-10  flare and enthusiasm can wane as serious problems remain, time
   1-11  grows short, and personal legislative projects are grounded; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, For many, the day after sine die adjournment is the
   1-13  dawn of a new day when members can return to their districts and
   1-14  appreciate once again how much their actions contribute to the
   1-15  lives of those around them; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, While at this point in the session it is difficult
   1-17  to imagine a light at the end of the tunnel without a large train
   1-18  obstructing one's view, legislative members can take great pride in
   1-19  their achievements to date and take comfort in the reminder that
   1-20  soon "this too shall pass"; now, therefore, be it
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-22  hereby designate the day after sine die adjournment of the regular
   1-23  session as Texas Smile Day since a smile will be proper attire for
   1-24  all legislative members given the many accomplishments of the
    2-1  legislative session that will surely contribute to the continued
    2-2  progress and vitality of the Lone Star State.
