                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The United Way of America has established the Spirit
    1-2  of America Award to recognize corporations and their employees that
    1-3  personify the virtues of courage, persistence, and dedication that
    1-4  characterize the spirit of America; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The United Way of America annually gives the Spirit
    1-6  of America Award of Excellence to recognize the one company in the
    1-7  nation that best demonstrates overall excellence in building a
    1-8  stronger, healthier community with its local United Way; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A diverse panel of judges representing corporations,
   1-10  local United Way organizations, organized labor, foundations, and
   1-11  higher education evaluated programs of corporations from all over
   1-12  the United States for the 1992 Spirit of America Award; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, A San Antonio-based corporation, Valero Energy
   1-14  Corporation and its employees were selected by the judges to
   1-15  receive the 1992 Spirit of America Award; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Valero Energy Corporation has employees throughout
   1-17  Texas, including company volunteer organizations in San Antonio,
   1-18  Houston, Corpus Christi, the lower Rio Grande Valley, and West
   1-19  Texas; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, The legislature takes great pleasure in recognizing
   1-21  the many contributions that Valero Energy Corporation and its
   1-22  employees are making in building stronger, healthier communities in
   1-23  Texas; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-1  hereby recognize and congratulate Valero Energy Corporation and
    2-2  each of its employees for the hard work and outstanding efforts
    2-3  that have resulted in the company being recognized with the 1992
    2-4  Spirit of America Award by the United Way of America; and, be it
    2-5  further
    2-6        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
    2-7  for Valero Energy Corporation and its employees as an expression of
    2-8  high regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
