                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Little Joe y La Familia have delighted music lovers
    1-2  nationwide for more than 30 years with their distinctive Tejano
    1-3  sound; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The seventh of 13 children in the close-knit
    1-5  Hernandez family, Little Joe grew up in Temple developing a unique
    1-6  musical style that blends elements of traditional "norteno" music,
    1-7  country, blues, and rock, into the infectious and unique rhythms
    1-8  for which his band, Little Joe y La Familia, is justly famed; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, This outstanding musician has recorded more than 40
   1-10  albums in his storied career, and "Diez y Seis de Septiembre"
   1-11  earned Little Joe a well-deserved Grammy Award in 1991 for "Best
   1-12  Mexican-American Album"; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Hoping to provide an outlet for promising young
   1-14  talent, Little Joe Hernandez has established the "Tejano Discos"
   1-15  label, and his most recent album, the much anticipated "Que Paso,"
   1-16  is the label's initial release; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Little Joe Hernandez tirelessly devotes his
   1-18  exceptional talents to a variety of charitable events and causes,
   1-19  including the National Leukemia Society Telethon, a National Easter
   1-20  Television Special, Farm Aid, Campesino Aid, the National Hispanic
   1-21  Scholarship Fund, the Texas Department of Health, the AIDS
   1-22  Foundation, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, and the "Don't Mess with
   1-23  Texas" and "Stay In School" campaigns, and for his outstanding
   1-24  efforts in behalf of others was awarded "Humanitarian of the Year"
    2-1  by the Kiwanis Club; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Having earned a permanent place of honor in our
    2-3  state's illustrious musical tradition, Little Joe y La Familia is a
    2-4  group of rare talent and achievement which has brought the soul of
    2-5  Tejano music to audiences across the nation, and these exemplary
    2-6  musicians are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition;
    2-7  now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-9  hereby honor Little Joe y La Familia for the group's singular
   2-10  achievements in the universal medium of  music; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for Little Joe y La Familia as an expression of high
   2-13  regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
