No. 146 73R11068 SRD-D CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The State of Texas actively has sought to improve 1-2 international relations and is committed to exploring new and 1-3 diverse opportunities for economic and cultural exchange with other 1-4 nations; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The people of Abia, Nigeria, have distinguished 1-6 themselves by hard work and great ingenuity, and they share with 1-7 the people of Texas a lively interest in economic growth and the 1-8 creative pursuit of expanding trade; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A sister state relationship between Texas and this 1-10 Nigerian state will help promote a continuing exchange between the 1-11 two states and will enhance mutual understanding and international 1-12 goodwill; the result will be a climate favorable to increased trade 1-13 and the sharing of mutually beneficial programs of enduring social, 1-14 cultural, and educational value; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A sister state relationship between Texas and this 1-16 Nigerian state will initiate the establishment of a "Technical 1-17 Cooperation and Exchange Program" between Abia and the United 1-18 States of America as an economic agenda conceptualized by the 1-19 Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, Owerri; now, therefore, be 1-20 it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas, on 1-22 behalf of all Texans, hereby affirm the desire to invite Abia, 1-23 Nigeria, to join with Texas in a sister state relationship and to 1-24 conduct economic, cultural, and educational programs of mutual 2-1 benefit that will bring our citizens closer together and strengthen 2-2 international understanding and goodwill; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared and forwarded to Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, governor of Abia State 2-5 of Nigeria, as an expression of the desire of the Legislature of 2-6 the State of Texas.
