                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The members of the Texas Legislature are proud to
    1-2  honor Reverend J. J.  Roberson for his many years of exemplary
    1-3  service in the name of the Lord and join his many friends and
    1-4  followers in celebrating his recent election to the office of
    1-5  president of the Baptist Ministers Association of Houston and
    1-6  Vicinity; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The founder of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist
    1-8  Church and its pastor for the past 35 years, Reverend Roberson has
    1-9  enjoyed a long and rewarding Christian ministry in the Houston
   1-10  community, faithfully tending to the needs of his congregation and
   1-11  providing religious guidance, spiritual comfort, and moral support
   1-12  to countless individuals during that span; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Although he did not seek individual recognition for
   1-14  the labor he performed as a humble servant of God, Reverend
   1-15  Roberson nevertheless became widely known and respected for his
   1-16  leadership ability as well as for his spiritual understanding and
   1-17  the exceptional pastoral care he bestows on his congregation; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He has used his God-given talent well, providing
   1-19  wise and effective leadership to his fellow ministers as second
   1-20  vice-moderator of the Independent Missionary Baptist General
   1-21  Association of Texas and as secretary-treasurer of the Missionary
   1-22  Baptist Convention of Texas, Baptist Training Union board; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, His recent election as president of the Baptist
   1-24  Ministers Association of Houston and Vicinity is truly indicative
    2-1  of the widespread respect and admiration he has earned by virtue of
    2-2  his selfless ministry, and the occasion of his installation to that
    2-3  office on May 28, 1993, affords an appropriate opportunity for the
    2-4  members of the Texas Legislature to join the members of his
    2-5  congregation and other well-wishers throughout the community in
    2-6  bestowing on him well-deserved praise and recognition; now,
    2-7  therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-9  hereby commend Reverend J. J. Roberson for his outstanding
   2-10  contributions to the spiritual and temporal well-being of his
   2-11  community and extend to him warm congratulations on the occasion of
   2-12  his installation as the new president of the Baptist Ministers
   2-13  Association of Houston and Vicinity; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for Reverend Roberson as an expression of high regard by
   2-16  the Legislature of the State of Texas.
