1-21 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
1-22 proposing a constitutional amendment clearing land titles by
1-23 relinquishing and releasing any claim of sovereign ownership or
1-24 title to a fractional interest in the Shelby, Frazier, and
1-25 McCormick League (now located in Fort Bend and Austin counties)
1-26 arising out of the voiding of a certain interest under a Mexican
1-27 land grant.
1-28 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-29 SECTION 1. Article VII of the Texas Constitution is amended
1-30 by adding Section 2A to read as follows:
1-31 Sec. 2A. The State of Texas hereby relinquishes and releases
1-32 any claim of sovereign ownership or title to an undivided one-third
1-33 interest in and to the lands and minerals within the Shelby,
1-34 Frazier, and McCormick League (now located in Fort Bend and Austin
1-35 counties) arising out of the interest in that league originally
1-36 granted under the Mexican Colonization Law of 1823 to John
1-37 McCormick on or about July 24, 1824, and subsequently voided by the
1-38 governing body of Austin's Original Colony on or about December 15,
1-39 1830, and title to such interest in the lands and minerals is
1-40 confirmed to the owners of the remaining interests in such lands
1-41 and minerals. This section is self-executing.
1-42 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-43 submitted to the voters at an election to be held on November 2,
1-44 1993. The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or
1-45 against the proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing
1-46 for the clearing of land titles by the release of a state claim in
1-47 a fractional interest, arising out of the voiding of an interest
1-48 under a Mexican land grant, to the owners of certain property in
1-49 Fort Bend and Austin counties."
