                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing local officers to
    1-2  become candidates for the legislature by resigning the office held.
    1-3        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Article III, Section 19, of the Texas
    1-5  Constitution is amended to read as follows:
    1-6        Sec. 19.  (a)  Except as provided by Subsection (b) of this
    1-7  section, no <No> judge of any court, Secretary of State, Attorney
    1-8  General, clerk of any court of record, or any person holding a
    1-9  lucrative office under the United States, or this State, or any
   1-10  foreign government shall during the term for which he is elected or
   1-11  appointed, be eligible to the Legislature.
   1-12        (b)  A person holding a district office of this State or an
   1-13  office of a county, municipality, or other political subdivision of
   1-14  this State may become eligible to the Legislature by resigning the
   1-15  office held.
   1-16        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-17  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1993.
   1-18  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
   1-19  the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment authorizing local
   1-20  officers to become candidates for the legislature by resigning the
   1-21  office held."
