1-20 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
1-21 proposing a constitutional amendment to abolish the office of
1-22 county surveyor in McLennan County.
1-23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-24 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Section 44(e), of the Texas
1-25 Constitution is amended to read as follows:
1-26 (e) The office of County Surveyor in the counties of Denton,
1-27 Randall, Collin, Dallas, El Paso, McLennan, and Henderson is
1-28 abolished upon the approval of the abolition by a majority of the
1-29 qualified voters of the respective county voting on the question at
1-30 an election that the Commissioners Court of the county may call.
1-31 If the election is called, the Commissioners Court shall order the
1-32 ballot at the election to be printed to provide for voting for or
1-33 against the proposition: "Abolishing the office of county
1-34 surveyor." Each qualified voter of the county is entitled to vote
1-35 in the election. If the office of County Surveyor is abolished
1-36 under this subsection, the maps, field notes, and other records in
1-37 the custody of the County Surveyor are transferred to the County
1-38 Clerk of the county. After abolition, the Commissioners Court may
1-39 employ or contract with a qualified person to perform any of the
1-40 functions that would have been performed by the County Surveyor if
1-41 the office had not been abolished.
1-42 SECTION 2. This proposed amendment shall be submitted to the
1-43 voters at an election to be held on November 2, 1993. The ballot
1-44 shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
1-45 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to abolish the office
1-46 of county surveyor in McLennan County."
