                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment relating to a right of
    1-2  privacy.
    1-3        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Article I of the Texas Constitution is amended by
    1-5  adding Section 8a to read as follows:
    1-6        Sec. 8a.  The right of every individual to privacy is
    1-7  recognized and may not be infringed without the showing of a
    1-8  compelling state interest.  This section does not limit the
    1-9  public's right of access to public records and meetings as provided
   1-10  by law.
   1-11        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-12  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1993.
   1-13  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
   1-14  the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment recognizing a
   1-15  personal right of privacy."
