                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
1-1 proposing a constitutional amendment to provide for the abolition
1-2 of the office of county surveyor.
1-3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Section 44, of the Texas
1-5 Constitution is amended by adding Subsection (h) to read as
    1-6 follows:
1-7 (h) The Commissioners Court of a county may call an election
1-8 to abolish the office of County Surveyor in the county. The office
1-9 of County Surveyor in the county is abolished if a majority of the
1-10 voters of the county voting on the question at that election
1-11 approve the abolition. If an election is called under this
1-12 subsection, the Commissioners Court shall order the ballot for the
1-13 election to be printed to provide for voting for or against the
1-14 proposition: "Abolishing the office of county surveyor of this
1-15 county." If the office of County Surveyor is abolished under this
1-16 subsection, the maps, field notes, and other records in the custody
1-17 of the County Surveyor are transferred to the county officer or
1-18 employee designated by the Commissioners Court of the county in
1-19 which the office is abolished, and the Commissioners Court may from
1-20 time to time change its designation as it considers appropriate.
1-21 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-22 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1993.
1-23 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
1-24 the proposition: "The constitutional amendment to permit the
2-1 voters of a county to decide, at an election called by the
2-2 commissioners court, whether to abolish the office of county
    2-3 surveyor in the county."
