                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment permitting a lawfully admitted
    1-2  resident alien to vote in certain elections.
    1-3        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Article VI of the Texas Constitution is amended
    1-5  by adding Section 6 to read as follows:
    1-6        Sec. 6.  A person who is otherwise qualified to vote under
    1-7  this article except that the person is not a United States citizen
    1-8  is qualified to vote in an election held by a school district or
    1-9  junior college district if the person is lawfully admitted for
   1-10  permanent residence under federal law.
   1-11        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-12  submitted to the voters at an election to be held on November 2,
   1-13  1993.  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or
   1-14  against the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment to allow a
   1-15  lawfully admitted resident alien to vote in elections held by a
   1-16  school district or a junior college district."
