   1-21                        HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
   1-22  proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize an increase in
   1-23  the tax rate limit for rural fire prevention districts.
   1-24        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-25        SECTION 1.  Article III, Section 48-d, of the Texas
   1-26  Constitution is amended to read as follows:
   1-27        Sec. 48-d.  The Legislature shall have the power to provide
   1-28  for the establishment and creation of rural fire prevention
   1-29  districts and to authorize a tax on the ad valorem property
   1-30  situated in said districts not to exceed Five (5›) <Three (3›)>
   1-31  Cents on the One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars valuation for the
   1-32  support thereof; provided that no tax shall be levied in support of
   1-33  said districts until approved by vote of the people residing
   1-34  therein.
   1-35        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-36  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1993.
   1-37  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
   1-38  the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment increasing the
   1-39  maximum ad valorem tax rate of rural fire prevention districts from
   1-40  three cents to five cents on each $100 of taxable value of
   1-41  property."
