                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment permitting the legislature to
    1-2  regulate the time for the commencement of a trial in a criminal
    1-3  case, including the time in which a prosecutor must be ready for
    1-4  trial.
    1-5        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-6        SECTION 1.  Article 1 of the Texas Constitution is amended by
    1-7  adding Section 10a to read as follows:
    1-8        Sec. 10a  The legislature may enact laws regulating the time
    1-9  for the commencement of a trial in a criminal case, including the
   1-10  time in which a prosecutor must be ready for trial.
   1-11        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-12  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1993.
   1-13  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
   1-14  the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment permitting the
   1-15  legislature to regulate the time for the commencement of a trial in
   1-16  a criminal case, including the time in which a prosecutor must be
   1-17  ready for trial."
