H.R. No. 5 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Clyde Jones, at the age of 75, 1-2 has brought a profound loss to the many friends and relatives of 1-3 this esteemed citizen of Rockdale; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The owner of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Homes, 1-5 Mr. Jones was a native of Caldwell who began his profession in that 1-6 community as an employee of the Harvey-Schiller Funeral Home during 1-7 the 1930s; a licensed funeral director for 53 years, he served the 1-8 people of Central Texas with compassion and sensitivity for more 1-9 than half a century, offering much-needed solace to many families 1-10 in times of bereavement; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Jones's career was interrupted briefly in its 1-12 early years when he volunteered to serve his country as a member of 1-13 the United States Navy during World War II; completing his duty on 1-14 the USS Oneida, he returned to Texas where he continued his 1-15 profession as a valued employee of the Phillips & Luckey 1-16 organization in Rockdale and Giddings; and 1-17 WHEREAS, After several years of admirable service as a 1-18 general manager, Mr. Jones and a partner purchased Phillips & 1-19 Luckey in 1972, carrying on the respected tradition long associated 1-20 with that organization; under his direction, the company continued 1-21 to adhere to the highest standards of excellence, providing comfort 1-22 and assistance to many families in the communities of Giddings, 1-23 Rockdale, and Caldwell; and 1-24 WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, this 2-1 outstanding gentleman had distinguished himself as one of the 2-2 area's foremost civic leaders, sharing his time and talents with a 2-3 number of worthy organizations, including the Rockdale Noon Lions 2-4 Club, the Giddings Rotary Club, the Boy Scouts of America, and the 2-5 Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department; a former member of the Rockdale 2-6 City Council, he received well-deserved recognition in 1989 when he 2-7 was named outstanding citizen of the year by the local chamber of 2-8 commerce; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Clyde Jones exemplified the 2-10 ideals of excellence, dedication, and concern for his fellow 2-11 citizens; though his presence is gone from us now, the memory of 2-12 this remarkable man will continue to live in the hearts of those 2-13 whose lives he touched during his years on this earth; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Jones and 2-17 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-18 Wilma Jones; to his sons, Wallace and Stephen Jones; to his 2-19 daughters, Sharon Ross, Barbara Manbeck, Charisse Golden, and 2-20 Gracile Remaley; to his sisters, Irene Cornelius and Virginia 2-21 Alford; and to his 15 beloved grandchildren; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-23 for the members of his family, and that when the Texas House of 2-24 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clyde 2-25 Jones. 2-26 Jones. 2-27 Kubiak 3-1 H.R.
