H.R. No. 16
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On Monday, January 25, 1993, many loyal residents of
    1-2  Orange County will travel to the State Capitol to celebrate Orange
    1-3  County Day, a date on which Texans unite in honoring the vital role
    1-4  this county has played in the industrial and recreational needs of
    1-5  this state for more than a century; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Named for an orange grove found flourishing on the
    1-7  banks of the Sabine River by French and Spanish explorers, Orange
    1-8  County was created in 1852 from the East Texas county of Jefferson;
    1-9  and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The county is bordered on the west by the Neches
   1-11  River, on the east by the Sabine River, and on the south by Sabine
   1-12  Lake; Orange, the county seat, enjoys a rich historical and
   1-13  cultural heritage, and is home to such popular attractions as the
   1-14  Heritage House Museum, the W. H. Stark House, the Stark Museum of
   1-15  Art, and the Lutcher Theatre for the Performing Arts; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Orange County contains vast mineral wealth in the
   1-17  form of oil, gas, clay, sand, gravel, and other valuable lodes;
   1-18  since 1913 the county has produced more than 100 million barrels of
   1-19  oil; it is a center for petrochemicals, rice milling, seafood
   1-20  processing, and the paper industry; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Agriculture also is significant in the county's
   1-22  prosperity; Orange County citizens take justifiable pride in the
   1-23  area's  rich agribusiness, which is based on an abundance of
   1-24  timber, rice, soybeans, the raising of poultry and cattle, and
    2-1  crawfish production; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Orange County offers a wide variety of recreational
    2-3  opportunities as well; its bountiful natural resources make it an
    2-4  ideal spot for enjoying such outdoor activities as freshwater and
    2-5  saltwater fishing, hunting, and bird watching; since 1962 more
    2-6  tourists have visited Orange County than any other county in the
    2-7  State of Texas; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Blessed with an abundance of commercial and natural
    2-9  wealth and with an energetic population that stands confident in
   2-10  its outlook toward the future, this unique county and its citizens
   2-11  have played a significant role in Texas' development, and their
   2-12  many contributions to the state are indeed worthy of special
   2-13  emphasis and recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-15  Legislature hereby recognize January 25, 1993, as Orange County Day
   2-16  and join the citizens of Orange County in paying tribute to one of
   2-17  Texas' finest counties; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-19  prepared for Orange County as a commemoration of this grand
   2-20  occasion and as an expression of highest regard by the Texas House
   2-21  of Representatives.
