H.R. No. 29 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Lon Evans on December 11, 1992, at the 1-2 age of 80, is a sorrowful loss to his family and many friends; a 1-3 longtime resident of Fort Worth, this industrious individual left 1-4 behind a legacy of dedication and service to his community which 1-5 has enriched the lives of all who knew him; and 1-6 WHEREAS, At an early age, Mr. Evans developed a love for 1-7 sports which was to remain a constant theme throughout his life; 1-8 earning All-Southwest Conference honors as a star on the 1932 Texas 1-9 Christian University championship football team, he went on to 1-10 pursue a colorful professional career with the Green Bay Packers; 1-11 later, as an official in both the Southwest Conference and the 1-12 National Football League, this devoted athlete continued to 1-13 participate in the sport he held so dear; and 1-14 WHEREAS, His activities were not, however, limited entirely 1-15 to collegiate and professional football; as an official in the Fort 1-16 Worth public school system, Mr. Evans worked to affect positive 1-17 change in both the mental and physical growth of generations of 1-18 young people; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Though he was actively involved in many 1-20 organizations, including the Polytechnic Masonic Lodge 925, the 1-21 Moslah Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Royal Order of 1-22 the Jesters, he also gained high regard throughout the community 1-23 for his 24-year tenure of faithful public service as sheriff of 1-24 Tarrant County; continuing along this career path, he served as 2-1 president of the Sheriff's Association of Texas and eventually as 2-2 director of the National Sheriff's Association; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Mr. Evans was a man who lived a life of achievement; 2-4 he attained the goals he set for himself, and in doing so, set an 2-5 example of leadership to the members of the many organizations in 2-6 which he was involved; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lon Evans and extend 2-9 heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-10 Marion Pace Evans of Fort Worth; to his daughters, Marlon Evans 2-11 Seghetti, Kitty Evans Loveless, and Peggy Evans Delaney; to his 2-12 five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and to the many 2-13 relatives, friends, and colleagues of this exceptional individual; 2-14 and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-16 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-17 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mr. Lon 2-18 Evans. 2-19 Evans. 2-20 Willis 2-21 H.R.
