H.R. No. 33
R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The friends and family of Dr. Franklin Yeager have
1-2 suffered a great loss with the passing of this esteemed gentleman
1-3 on November 30, 1992, at the age of 78; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Dr. Yeager was born in Corpus
1-5 Christi on May 16, 1914; after his graduation from Corpus Christi
1-6 High School, he attended Southwestern University and Baylor Medical
1-7 College; and
1-8 WHEREAS, This patriotic individual served his country as a
1-9 captain and flight surgeon in the United States Air Force before
1-10 returning to Corpus Christi in 1942 to set up his own medical
1-11 practice; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Throughout his long and distinguished career,
1-13 Dr. Yeager continued to expand his medical knowledge by
1-14 participating in several professional organizations, including the
1-15 American Academy of Family Practice, the Texas Medical Association,
1-16 and the American Medical Association; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This civic-minded gentleman was never too busy to
1-18 serve the people of his community, and he took great pride in his
1-19 efforts to improve the quality of medical care throughout the
1-20 Corpus Christi area; the former chief of staff of both Memorial
1-21 Hospital and Sizer Hospital, he also founded and helped organize
1-22 the Nueces County Blood Bank and Medical Indigent Clinic, served as
1-23 vice-president of the State Board of Health, and acted as director
1-24 of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Widely recognized for his incomparable leadership
2-2 skills as well as his medical expertise, Dr. Yeager gave generously
2-3 of his time and talent, and the Texas Medical Association, the
2-4 Nueces County Medical Society, the Southwest Texas District Medical
2-5 Association, and the Gulf Coast Academy of Family Practice are just
2-6 a few of the fine organizations that benefitted from his wise
2-7 counsel and guidance; and
2-8 WHEREAS, The Texas Medical Association recognized this
2-9 admirable man for his numerous contributions to society by electing
2-10 him to emeritus membership in 1983; and
2-11 WHEREAS, By his selfless dedication to his profession, his
2-12 abiding concern for the well-being of those around him, and his
2-13 sterling example of public service, Dr. Yeager touched the lives of
2-14 countless individuals, and it is indeed proper that the Texas House
2-15 of Representatives join family, friends, and admirers throughout
2-16 the community in honoring this noble and compassionate individual;
2-17 now, therefore, be it
2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-19 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Franklin Yeager
2-20 and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-21 wife, Birdie Yeager; to his three daughters, Charlene Reeves,
2-22 Jonell Raborn, and Rhonda Hutchinson; to his sister, Nancy
2-23 Blackburn; to his stepdaughter, Dr. Debra Jensen; to his stepsons,
2-24 Rick Carlton and Ron Berry; to his six grandchildren; and to all
2-25 who mourn the loss of this remarkable individual; and, be it
2-26 further
2-27 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-1 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
3-2 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-3 Dr. Franklin Yeager.
