No. 40 73R2145 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Burleson High School Elks football team 1-2 distinguished itself in the 1992 gridiron campaign, completing the 1-3 season with 8 victories against only 3 defeats to post the second 1-4 best record in school history; and 1-5 WHEREAS, For the first time since 1969, the Elks earned a 1-6 well-deserved spot in the University Scholastic League Class 5A 1-7 football playoffs; in a fitting culmination of the team's return to 1-8 football glory, the Elks played their postseason game at Texas 1-9 Stadium; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Memories of former successes and the desire to 1-11 return to the highest levels of competition only served to inspire 1-12 and challenge the Burleson players, whose members include Jeff 1-13 Martinez, Andy Jack, Shawn Smajstrla, Chris Miller, Micah Stephens, 1-14 Brad Walls, Steve Holloway, Kevin Cassidy, Shane King, Marc Arnold, 1-15 Travis Downs, Lerone Jordan, Brandon Bartlett, Brian Corbin, Tim 1-16 Spears, Mike Crocker, Josh Brannon, Chad Sessom, Jeremy Bosher, 1-17 Josh Martinez, Dylan Brooks, John Carlson, Troy Masters, Robert 1-18 Massey, Mike Harris, Matt Tomlin, Mark Moreno, Mike Guinn, Kenneth 1-19 Mills, Matt Downs, Steve Janusch, Jason Harvison, Lyle Rudolph, 1-20 Terry McConnell, Zack Suddeth, Chris Wilson, Casey Patterson, Mike 1-21 Insall, Jason Stuart, Steve Luttrel, Chris Childers, Mitch Young, 1-22 Jim Bob Foreman, and Lonzo Wallace; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Outstanding leadership and guidance were provided by 1-24 head coach Mark Saunders, with tireless support from assistant 2-1 coaches Larry Stovall, James Smelley, Henry McBrayer, Gene Tutle, 2-2 Eddie Grimes, David Shuster, Geary Horner, and Keith Gilbert; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Other invaluable off-the-field assistance was given 2-4 by trainer Roddy Smith, student trainers Rachael Gordon, Shiloh 2-5 Smith, Christina Everatt, April Williams, Mandi Swalk, Rhonda 2-6 Haney, and Lisa Parnell, and student managers Travis Phillips, John 2-7 White, and Tracy Jones; and 2-8 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men and their coaches 2-9 and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students 2-10 and faculty at Burleson High School and their many supporters in 2-11 the community, and their exceptional achievements have rightfully 2-12 earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby congratulate coach Mark Saunders and the 2-15 Burleson High School Elks football team on their excellent season 2-16 and extend to them best wishes for continued success in the future; 2-17 and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-19 for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be 2-20 prepared for prominent display at Burleson High School as an 2-21 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representative.
