                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, A. J. Foyt, Jr., has long distinguished himself in
    1-2  the dangerous and demanding sport of automobile racing,
    1-3  establishing a tradition of excellence and a superb record of
    1-4  achievement that may never be equalled; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Claiming 12 major driving championships in his
    1-6  career to date, his victories include four wins at the Indianapolis
    1-7  500 as well as first place honors at the Daytona 500 and the 24
    1-8  Hours of LeMans, and he is the only driver ever to have captured
    1-9  these three prestigious titles; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Included among the wealth of other titles and honors
   1-11  Mr. Foyt has amassed are seven national Indy car championships, two
   1-12  titles in the International Race of Champions series, having been
   1-13  named the recipient of the 1975 Martini and Rossi Driver of the
   1-14  Year Award, and induction into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in
   1-15  1989; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Although a fierce competitor on any racetrack, as
   1-17  his 172 trips to the winner's circle in major races will attest, A.
   1-18  J. Foyt, Jr., has particularly excelled in Indy car races, having
   1-19  won an unsurpassed 67 times in such events and holding the record
   1-20  for most "500 Mile" Indy car victories with nine; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Despite sustaining serious injuries during his
   1-22  illustrious career, no amount of physical pain could quell his
   1-23  unquenchable desire to compete; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, When away from the smell of gasoline and the scream
    2-1  of high-pitched engines, this accomplished Texan derives
    2-2  considerable enjoyment from spending time with his wife, Lucy, and
    2-3  their children, Tony, Terry, Jerry, and Larry, as well as sampling
    2-4  such Texas staples as chili and country-western music; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Throughout his fabled career as an auto racer, A. J.
    2-6  Foyt, Jr., has consistently sought to challenge his own abilities
    2-7  and maximize the potential of both man and machine and his
    2-8  remarkable achievements in this regard truly merit special
    2-9  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby congratulate A. J. Foyt, Jr., on his myriad of
   2-12  accomplishments in the field of auto racing and extend best wishes
   2-13  to him for continued success and happiness for many years to come;
   2-14  and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Mr. Foyt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-17  House of Representatives.
