H.R. No. 45
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  the many fine students of Plains High School who recently achieved
    1-3  outstanding success in University Interscholastic League Class A
    1-4  state competition; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Plains High School band thrilled and delighted
    1-6  judges with its outstanding musical repertoire and showmanship to
    1-7  capture a first-place finish in the state marching band competition
    1-8  and scored high as well with a second-place finish in the
    1-9  sweepstakes competition; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Competing against some of Texas' finest collections
   1-11  of runners, the Plains High School boys' cross country team of
   1-12  Junior Lira, Lenny Morrow, Jason Smith, David Corrales, and Michael
   1-13  Sainz turned in especially noteworthy performances to garner a
   1-14  second-place team finish in the state UIL meet; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Four of these outstanding student athletes also put
   1-16  forth exceptional effort in individual track events; Michael Sainz
   1-17  and Jason Smith earned first- and second-place finishes,
   1-18  respectively, in the 800-meter race, while David Corrales finished
   1-19  second in the 1600-meter run, and Joe Valdez turned in a noteworthy
   1-20  performance for a fourth-place finish in the 3200-meter event; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The faculty and staff at Plains High School are to
   1-22  be congratulated for the superb instruction, coaching, and support
   1-23  they have provided to all of their students who participated in
   1-24  academic and athletic competitions throughout the year; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Plains High School is a truly exceptional
    2-2  institution, and its fine student band members and track athletes
    2-3  who have reached the state level in UIL competition have achieved
    2-4  commendable personal success and brought immense pride to their
    2-5  community; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby congratulate the Plains Independent School
    2-8  District and its participating high school students for their many
    2-9  excellent performances in the UIL state competition during the
   2-10  1991-92 school year and extend best wishes to them for their
   2-11  continued success in future seasons; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-13  for these exceptional students and for prominent display at Plains
   2-14  High School as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of
   2-15  Representatives.
