No. 47 72S40691 CCK-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Students of Andrews High School enjoyed a successful 1-2 1991-92 school year in University Interscholastic League and 1-3 independent state musical and athletic competition, demonstrating 1-4 excellence in a wide variety of endeavors, including band, choir, 1-5 tennis, golf, and powerlifting; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Carrie Brewer received a first place in state solo 1-7 choir, leading a talented group of superlative vocalists that also 1-8 included second-place recipients Jennifer Chandler, Stephanie 1-9 Fortner, Michael Monroy, Peter Thompson, and Jason Ward; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In band, second-place UIL honors in state solo and 1-11 ensemble competition went to Leah Henson and Jennifer Ragland, both 1-12 outstanding musicians who had each placed first earlier at the 1-13 regional level; and 1-14 WHEREAS, An outstanding and energetic tennis duo, Jennifer 1-15 Hines and Casey Halsey, combined their skills at the net and 1-16 baseline, winning third place in girls' doubles matches at the 1-17 Class 4A state tennis meet; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The girls' and boys' golf teams brought great esteem 1-19 to Andrews High School with state championship and state runner-up 1-20 team trophies, respectively; in individual medal play, Chad 1-21 Campbell contributed yet another state title and was ably supported 1-22 by Ronnie Lopez, who placed sixth at the state tournament, while 1-23 Lisa McQuatters placed second in girls' competition; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Competing under the auspices of the Texas High 2-1 School Powerlifting Association, Anthony Christian and Sergio 2-2 Perales finished second and fifth at that federation's state meet; 2-3 the former garnered even greater acclaim and prestige as the boys' 2-4 national high school runner-up, while Amanda Cowart shined as the 2-5 girls' national high school champion in powerlifting contests 2-6 sponsored by the National Association of Strength Athletes; and 2-7 WHEREAS, These young men and women have commendably 2-8 represented their school and community and truly merit special 2-9 praise and recognition for the far-reaching and splendid 2-10 accomplishments that are a source of pride to themselves, their 2-11 mentors and coaches, their family members, and their fellow 2-12 students; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 72nd Texas 2-14 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate performers and 2-15 contestants from Andrews High School on their brilliant 1991-92 2-16 school year achievements in state and national musical and athletic 2-17 competition; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-19 for each student winning honors at the state and national levels 2-20 and that a copy be prepared for prominent display at Andrews High 2-21 School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-22 Representatives.
