R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Minnie Collins Boyd, on January 2,
1-2 1993, at the age of 83, has brought a great loss to the many
1-3 friends and relatives of this fine woman; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Boyd will be fondly remembered
1-5 as a devoted wife, a loving mother, a loyal friend, and a valued
1-6 member of the Dallas community; and
1-7 WHEREAS, The daughter of Richard and Anna Lee Nolan Collins,
1-8 she was born February 11, 1909, in Mineola and was graduated from
1-9 high school in nearby Sulphur Springs; and
1-10 WHEREAS, As a young woman, she wed Joseph Boyd and the happy
1-11 couple enjoyed a deeply fulfilling union, which lasted for more
1-12 than 50 years until Mrs. Boyd's passing and was blessed by a loving
1-13 family that grew to include five fine children, 25 grandchildren,
1-14 and 32 great-grandchildren; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Mrs. Boyd was an upstanding
1-16 member of the Dallas community who instilled in her children the
1-17 values of hard work and community service and was amply rewarded
1-18 with the success of each of her offspring: two became school
1-19 teachers, one enjoys a career as a civic activist, one is a city
1-20 manager, and another has achieved success as a lawyer and
1-21 politician; and
1-22 WHEREAS, In addition to providing a warm and loving home for
1-23 her family, Mrs. Boyd pursued a steady and satisfying career
1-24 outside the home and, for more than 60 years, worked as a maid
2-1 throughout the Dallas community; and
2-2 WHEREAS, She was an outgoing and joyful person who led a full
2-3 and active life and enjoyed a variety of interests, including food,
2-4 fashion, and politics; an avid walker and traveler as well, she
2-5 enjoyed sojourns with friends and family across the United States
2-6 and to Europe and the Caribbean; and
2-7 WHEREAS, The qualities that endeared her to so many emanated
2-8 from her deep and abiding faith; a devout member of the Good Street
2-9 Baptist Church for more than 50 years, Mrs. Boyd was a soloist in
2-10 the church choir, a staunch member of the church's sisterhood, and
2-11 an active participant in the church's excellent Sunday School
2-12 program; and
2-13 WHEREAS, Throughout her long and fruitful life, this
2-14 exceptional woman touched the lives of many people and, though her
2-15 presence will be deeply missed, her memory will endure in the
2-16 hearts of those who came to know and love her; now, therefore, be
2-17 it
2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-19 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Minnie Collins Boyd
2-20 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-21 husband, Joseph Boyd; to her three daughters, Baby Dalle Hancock,
2-22 Gwendolyn Hill, and Lovia C. Boyd; to her two sons, Willie Lewis
2-23 Brown, Jr., and James Walton; to her brother, Itsie Collins; and to
2-24 the many other members of her family; and, be it further
2-25 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-26 for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of
2-27 Representatives adjourns today, it do so in memory of Minnie
