                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
    1-2  pride in honoring Margarite Campbell of Thorndale, whose
    1-3  extraordinary efforts in behalf of the children of her community
    1-4  truly exemplify the spirit of volunteerism; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A native of Lexington, Mrs. Campbell was herself an
    1-6  exceptional student as a young woman, winning the University
    1-7  Interscholastic League spelling contest each year and graduating
    1-8  valedictorian of her class with a full scholarship to attend Rice
    1-9  University; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Placing the needs of her family above any personal
   1-11  self-interest, Mrs. Campbell assumed the duties of raising her
   1-12  younger brother and sister at the age of 15 following her mother's
   1-13  passing and set aside her own individual goal to further her
   1-14  education; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Following her marriage at the age of 20,
   1-16  Mrs. Campbell moved to Thorndale where she worked on the family
   1-17  farm and at the local gin and raised four children; in recent
   1-18  years, her close-knit family has grown to include six beloved
   1-19  grandchildren; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Though never able to take advantage of her
   1-21  scholarship and attend college, this remarkable woman has made a
   1-22  profound impact on the lives of generations of students at
   1-23  Thorndale Elementary School as an aide with the school's Chapter
   1-24  One program; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Since February 1966, Mrs. Campbell has been a
    2-2  dedicated volunteer at the school, serving under five different
    2-3  principals and earning a lasting place in the hearts of many of her
    2-4  students; today, she often works with children who are the children
    2-5  of former students; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, For 27 years, Margarite Campbell has enhanced the
    2-7  education of countless Texas schoolchildren and she is indeed
    2-8  worthy of our highest praise and recognition for her continuing
    2-9  contributions in this regard; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby honor Margarite Campbell for her outstanding
   2-12  contributions to her community and state through her service at
   2-13  Thorndale Elementary School; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for Mrs. Campbell as an expression of highest regard by
   2-16  the Texas House of Representatives.
