                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  James W. Holbrook, who is retiring this year from his position as a
    1-3  valued employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone and as executive
    1-4  vice-president of the Communication Workers of America (CWA); and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A dedicated veteran of the labor movement for more
    1-6  than four decades, Mr. Holbrook began his affiliation with CWA
    1-7  Local 6215 of Dallas in 1958; he has since served the local with
    1-8  the utmost integrity and distinction as the organization's
    1-9  president, executive vice-president, vice-president, and secretary;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, During his seven-year tenure as president of CWA
   1-12  Local 6215, he supervised five other officers and 22 executive
   1-13  board members in handling grievances and formal and informal
   1-14  arbitration cases for its more than 6,000 members; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook currently shares his valuable insight
   1-16  and expertise as president of the CWA-TPLC, which represents more
   1-17  than 50,000 CWA members, including 10,000 state workers in Texas;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable gentleman serves as a
   1-20  vice-president of the Texas AFL-CIO, representing the CWA; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook also has long played an active role in
   1-22  Dallas County Democratic politics, having previously served for 12
   1-23  years as a Democratic precinct chairman and currently holding a
   1-24  position on the Democratic Finance Council of Dallas County; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Holbrook
    2-2  has been supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Bobbie Sue;
    2-3  and
    2-4        WHEREAS, This respected union leader has earned the trust and
    2-5  admiration of all who know him through his rare combination of
    2-6  integrity, conviction, and concern for his fellow workers; his
    2-7  tireless support of organized labor has helped to ensure a brighter
    2-8  future for many Texas workers, and his exemplary dedication in this
    2-9  regard is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; now,
   2-10  therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby honor James W. Holbrook on his exceptional
   2-13  achievements as a union leader and extend to him sincere best
   2-14  wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Mr. Holbrook as an expression of high regard by the
   2-17  Texas House of Representatives.
