R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The 1992-1993 Dallas Cowboys football team has
1-2 restored that proud franchise to its rightful place among the
1-3 National Football League's elite and earned a spot as the National
1-4 Football Conference representative in Super Bowl XXVII on January
1-5 31, 1993; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Under the superb leadership of head coach Jimmy
1-7 Johnson, the Cowboys, who were given up for dead a scant few years
1-8 ago, have risen like a phoenix from the ashes of defeat, displaying
1-9 rare dedication and determination in a bid to be the best at their
1-10 given sport; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Marching to a 13-3 regular season record, the
1-12 Cowboys claimed the championship in the rugged Eastern Division of
1-13 the National Football Conference and earned a well-deserved bye in
1-14 the first playoff round; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Their first playoff foe, bitter conference rival
1-16 Philadelphia, promised to provide Dallas with a stern test, but the
1-17 Cowboys, fueled by the powerful running of Emmitt Smith, Troy
1-18 Aikman's pinpoint passing, and devastating defensive pressure,
1-19 rocked the Eagles 34-10 before a jubilant Texas Stadium crowd; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Facing the favored San Francisco 49ers in the
1-21 treacherous confines of Candlestick Park, the Cowboys exorcised the
1-22 ghost of their 1982 playoff defeat to the 49ers, coming from behind
1-23 in a dramatic 30-20 victory; and
1-24 WHEREAS, This outstanding group of athletes and their
2-1 coaching staff have been a tremendous source of pride to football
2-2 fans in the Dallas area and throughout the State of Texas, and
2-3 their remarkable accomplishments have rightfully earned them
2-4 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby commend head coach Jimmy Johnson and the Dallas
2-7 Cowboys on their exceptional gridiron campaign and extend to them
2-8 best wishes for a resounding victory over the Buffalo Bills in
2-9 Super Bowl XXVII; and, be it further
2-10 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-11 for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high regard by
2-12 the Texas House of Representatives.
