By: Gallego, Pete H.R. No. 84 73R2747 LBD-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On October 12, 1992, Dr. Everett E. "Double E" 1-2 Turner, respected professor and scholar from Alpine, died at the 1-3 age of 77; though the loss of this distinguished individual was a 1-4 sorrowful occasion, his many contributions to education are 1-5 timeless legacies that will continue benefiting generations of 1-6 students well into the future; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Receiving his bachelor of science degree from Sam 1-8 Houston State University in 1938, his master's degree from Sul Ross 1-9 State University in 1948, and his doctorate from the University of 1-10 Wyoming in 1960, Dr. Turner drew on his extensive educational 1-11 background as he actively involved himself in the education of 1-12 others; after teaching for a time at Sweetwater High School early 1-13 in his career, Dr. Turner accepted a position at Alpine High 1-14 School, where he taught vocational agriculture; and 1-15 WHEREAS, In 1948, Dr. Turner became a member of the staff of 1-16 Sul Ross State University, where, among his many accomplishments, 1-17 he was instrumental in the formation of the National 1-18 Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and was the sponsor of 1-19 several rodeo teams that went on to win national titles in early 1-20 NIRA competitions; and 1-21 WHEREAS, After 10 years of diligent service at the 1-22 university, Dr. Turner was appointed chairman of the Turner Range 1-23 Animal Science Center, an institution named in his honor, and he 1-24 continued to serve in this capacity until his retirement in 1976; 2-1 and 2-2 WHEREAS, Dr. Turner possessed a sincere devotion to the 2-3 educational experience, and worked tirelessly to develop a thirst 2-4 for knowledge within his students; he strived to introduce them to 2-5 all aspects of a subject and sought to make the process of learning 2-6 an exciting activity; and 2-7 WHEREAS, This noble individual was a man of rare dedication 2-8 and warmth who touched the lives of many people during his years on 2-9 earth, and his memory will long endure in the hearts of all who 2-10 were privileged to benefit from his instruction and wisdom; now, 2-11 therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Everett E. 2-14 "Double E" Turner and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of 2-15 his family: to his wife, LaNelle Turner of Alpine; to his sons, 2-16 Everett E. "Gene" Turner, Jr., of San Diego, William T. "Bill" 2-17 Headrick and Carey L. Headrick, both of Alpine; to his daughters, 2-18 Judy Turner Sproul of Midland and Diana Headrick Taylor of Alpine; 2-19 to his 14 grandchildren; to his great-grandchildren; and to the 2-20 many other relatives and friends of this honorable gentleman; and, 2-21 be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-23 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-24 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. 2-25 Everett E. "Double E" Turner.
