                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Michael McDougal recently retired from his position
    1-2  as superintendent of schools for the Sherman Independent School
    1-3  District, thus bringing to a close an illustrious 30-year career
    1-4  with the Sherman ISD; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State
    1-6  University, Mr. McDougal began his career as a classroom teacher
    1-7  with Sherman ISD in 1963; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, While ably fulfilling his duties as a classroom
    1-9  instructor and later as a school administrator, he furthered his
   1-10  education by earning a master's degree in education and a doctorate
   1-11  in administrative leadership from the University of North Texas;
   1-12  elevated to the post of elementary school principal in 1968, he
   1-13  continued to serve the district for the next 18 years as a
   1-14  principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, This broad range of teaching and administrative
   1-16  experience gave him a unique perspective on the challenges and
   1-17  resources of the Sherman ISD, and after serving for two years, from
   1-18  1986 to 1988, as assistant superintendent, he rose to the rank of
   1-19  superintendent of schools in 1988; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, This outstanding educator believed strongly in the
   1-21  youth of his community, and he did not confine this commitment to
   1-22  the school environment; Mr. McDougal has dedicated countless hours
   1-23  of service to civic and charitable organizations, and this
   1-24  dedication has earned him the admiration and respect of his
    2-1  colleagues and fellow citizens; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, A member of the boards of directors of the Boys
    2-3  Club, United Way, the Texoma Regional Blood Bank, and Junior
    2-4  Achievement, this remarkable gentleman also is active in Rotary
    2-5  International, the America 2000 Coalition, and the Parent-Teachers
    2-6  Association; he served as the PTA scholarship chairman for three
    2-7  years and has selflessly dedicated 23 years to the United Way as a
    2-8  fund drive worker; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Mr. McDougal has served his nation in the United
   2-10  States Army Reserve for three decades, and in that time, he
   2-11  completed numerous officer training courses at Fort Benning,
   2-12  Georgia, and graduated from the United States Army Command and
   2-13  General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; he rose from the
   2-14  rank of private to his current rank as brigadier general and has
   2-15  served this branch of the armed services with honor and distinction
   2-16  in numerous leadership capacities; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, Throughout his exceptional career, Mr. McDougal has
   2-18  enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Linda, and he takes great
   2-19  pride in the accomplishments of his four children, Cary, Kevin,
   2-20  Karen, and Alan; and
   2-21        WHEREAS, Michael McDougal has dedicated most of his life to
   2-22  the education and enrichment of countless young Texans, and in his
   2-23  efforts he has reached beyond the classroom environment and into
   2-24  the community; through his actions, he has proved himself to be a
   2-25  worthy role model for the young people whose lives he has shaped,
   2-26  and in doing this he has exemplified the very finest ideals of his
   2-27  profession; now, therefore, be it
    3-1        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    3-2  Legislature hereby honor Michael McDougal for his 30 years of
    3-3  service to the students, faculty, and parents of the Sherman
    3-4  Independent School District and extend warmest best wishes for
    3-5  continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further
    3-6        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-7  prepared for Mr. McDougal as an expression of high regard by the
    3-8  Texas House of Representatives.
