No. 95 73R2895 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Lee Roy Stacy, on November 21, 1992, at 1-2 the age of 66, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this distinguished Texas businessman and civic leader; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, The son of Morgan and Bessie Renfro Stacy, he was 1-6 born near Goldthwaite on January 18, 1926, at the Stacy homestead 1-7 and attended school in Goldthwaite; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A patriotic young man, he interrupted his education 1-9 to come to the aid of his country during World War II, serving in 1-10 the Pacific Theater as a baker on the U.S.S. Crosley; and 1-11 WHEREAS, When the war ended, he returned home and continued 1-12 his education, graduating from Goldthwaite High School in 1947 and 1-13 the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1948; and 1-14 WHEREAS, He began working as a funeral director in 1-15 Goldthwaite in 1950, with Earl Fairman, and with Roy Wilkins until 1-16 Mr. Wilkins' death in 1975; and 1-17 WHEREAS, With his son, Ricky, Mr. Stacy went on to purchase 1-18 the Wilkins Funeral Home and enjoyed a successful association with 1-19 the Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home until his recent passing; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Widely regarded throughout the Goldthwaite community 1-21 for his keen business acumen, he owned Stacy's Insurance Agency for 1-22 35 years as well; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Vitally interested in civic affairs, he capably 1-24 served the people of his community as a member of the Goldthwaite 2-1 City Council, as trustee and president of the Goldthwaite 2-2 Independent School District, and as chairman of Mills County Fresh 2-3 Water District No. 1; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Stacy 2-5 actively worked toward the betterment of the Goldthwaite community, 2-6 contributing time, talent, and energies as an esteemed member of 2-7 the Goldthwaite Masonic Lodge, the Goldthwaite Lions Club, the 2-8 Texas Farm Bureau, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9807; and 2-9 WHEREAS, He received his spiritual strength as a devout 2-10 member of Zion Lutheran Church in Priddy and later as a member of 2-11 First United Methodist Church in Goldthwaite; and 2-12 WHEREAS, A man of great vision, he dedicated much of his life 2-13 to serving his community; though his special presence will be 2-14 missed by all who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the 2-15 hearts and minds of the many people whose lives were touched by 2-16 this exceptional gentleman; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lee Roy Stacy and 2-19 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-20 devoted wife of 45 years, Doris Merlene Dearson Stacy; to his son 2-21 and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Jo Stacy; to his two grandchildren, 2-22 Chastidy and Brody Stacy; to his three sisters, Letha Featherston, 2-23 Evelyn Roberts, and Valera Gray; and to the many other members of 2-24 his family; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-26 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-27 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-1 Lee Roy Stacy.
