No. 101 73R2684 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of James Robert "Bob" De Lay on 1-2 January 12, 1993, at the age of 79, has brought a great loss to the 1-3 many friends, relatives, and colleagues of this distinguished 1-4 Texan; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born on October 17, 1913, in Plainview, Mr. De Lay 1-6 was educated at Sunset High School in Dallas and the University of 1-7 Oklahoma; throughout his life, he made many invaluable 1-8 contributions to the betterment of his state, profession, 1-9 community, and family; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This devoted husband and father shared a happy and 1-11 rewarding marriage with his wife, Bette, for 50 years; he also took 1-12 great pride in the accomplishments of his children, James, Edith, 1-13 Bobette, and Jeanine, and adored and cherished his two 1-14 grandchildren, Nathan and Jeremy; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. De Lay, who built many homes in the Houston 1-16 area, was admired by colleagues and clients alike for his 1-17 dedication to hard work and excellence; a past president of the 1-18 Greater Houston Builders Association, he won nationwide recognition 1-19 for his professionalism and was named life director of the National 1-20 Association of Homebuilders; and 1-21 WHEREAS, An accomplished pilot as well, Mr. De Lay's devotion 1-22 to the field of aviation led him to become an original sponsor of 1-23 the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Within his community, this admirable gentleman was 2-1 an active member of the Lincoln Owners Club, the Sons of 2-2 Confederate Veterans, and the Civil War Roundtable; he also 2-3 worshipped at the Bellaire United Methodist Church; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Mr. De Lay will 2-5 not quickly forget the warmth, compassion, and commitment he 2-6 brought to each facet of his life; though his presence is gone from 2-7 us now, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all 2-8 those whose lives he touched during his years on this earth; now, 2-9 therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Robert "Bob" De 2-12 Lay and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to 2-13 his wife, Bette De Lay of Houston; to his son, James Randy De Lay 2-14 of Bellaire; to his daughters and son-in-law, Jeanine De Lay of 2-15 Houston, Edith De Lay of Pinewood Springs, Colorado, and Bobette 2-16 and Clinton Dunn of Sugar Land; to his grandsons, Nathan and Jeremy 2-17 Chapman of Sugar Land; to his brother, Ross De Lay of Gladewater; 2-18 and to his many other friends and relatives; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-21 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-22 James Robert "Bob" De Lay.
