R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
1-2 pleasure in honoring Joseph Paul "Joe" Conway of Caldwell for his
1-3 exceptional achievements as the editor of the Burleson County
1-4 Citizen-Tribune and for his outstanding contributions to the
1-5 betterment of life in his community; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Born on October 18, 1961, in Tyler, Mr. Conway was
1-7 graduated from T. K. Gorman High School in 1980 and then continued
1-8 his education at Austin College in Sherman, Tyler Junior College,
1-9 and Texas A&M University; and
1-10 WHEREAS, This fine Texan entered the publishing industry in
1-11 1983 when he joined the staff of the Burleson County
1-12 Citizen-Tribune and immediately developed a reputation for talent
1-13 and hard work as a general assignment reporter, photographer, and
1-14 darkroom technician; only one year later, at the age of 23,
1-15 Mr. Conway was named managing editor of this respected local
1-16 weekly; and
1-17 WHEREAS, During his nine years as editor, he has become well
1-18 known to the citizens of Caldwell for his fairness, determination,
1-19 truthfulness, and willingness to tackle difficult issues; in
1-20 addition to supervising a staff of five, this exemplary journalist
1-21 coordinates all aspects of the newpaper's production and has
1-22 successfully guided the Citizen-Tribune through two design changes
1-23 and a recent conversion to computer desktop publishing; and
1-24 WHEREAS, This remarkable citizen also makes many
2-1 contributions toward the growth and vitality of the Caldwell
2-2 community and has served as a volunteer for the Special Friends
2-3 Program of the Caldwell Independent School District and as a member
2-4 of the Caldwell Chamber Board; the past president of the Burleson
2-5 County Health Care Foundation, he currently is serving his second
2-6 term as president of the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce; and
2-7 WHEREAS, Despite his many civic and professional activities,
2-8 this gentleman is above all else deeply devoted to his wife, Sandra
2-9 J. Conway, and to his community of faith at the First Baptist
2-10 Church of Caldwell; and
2-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Conway's many years of distinguished service to
2-12 the Burleson County Citizen-Tribune and the citizens of Caldwell
2-13 indeed merit special emphasis and recognition; now, therefore, be
2-14 it
2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-16 Legislature hereby commend Joseph Paul "Joe" Conway on the many
2-17 significant contributions he has made to his community, his
2-18 profession, and the State of Texas; and, be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20 prepared for Mr. Conway as an expression of high regard by the
2-21 Texas House of Representatives.
