H.R. No. 105 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Since the inception of the Texas Lottery on May 29, 1-2 1992, ticket sales have deposited more than $310 million in the 1-3 state's general revenue fund; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Promoters of the Texas Lottery have enlisted the 1-5 support of the Prairie View A&M University marching band to appear 1-6 in a television public service announcement aimed at combating an 1-7 unwanted side-effect of the lottery's tremendous popularity, 1-8 thousands of nonwinning tickets being thrown on Texas sidewalks and 1-9 roadways; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The celebrated marching band from Prairie View A&M 1-11 University will bring its distinctive style to the State Capitol on 1-12 January 27, 1993, to kick off a much-needed anti-littering 1-13 campaign; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Under the inspired guidance of band director George 1-15 Edwards, this talented group of musicians has previously had the 1-16 honor of performing for General Colin Powell on the occasion of his 1-17 visit to Prairie View A&M University and of providing special 1-18 halftime entertainment at the 1990 Cotton Bowl Classic game between 1-19 Grambling State University and Elizabeth City and at a televised 1-20 basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio 1-21 Spurs; and 1-22 WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas House of 1-23 Representatives recognize and praise this worthwhile collaboration; 1-24 now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby declare January 27, 1993, to be Prairie View A&M 2-3 University/Texas Lottery Anti-Litter Day at the State Capitol and 2-4 encourage all Texans to help to keep their beloved state beautiful. 2-5 encourage all Texans to help to keep their beloved state beautiful. 2-6 Brady 2-7 H.R.
