                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The retirement of Leroy Schneider as Seguin police
    1-2  chief on January 29, 1993, brings to a close a long and illustrious
    1-3  career with the police department of that proud community; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, This exceptional individual began his distinguished
    1-5  career of public service when he became a member of the Seguin Fire
    1-6  Department in 1948; in March of the following year, he worked for
    1-7  the Seguin Police Department's traffic division, which was then a
    1-8  two-man organization boasting a single police car, a 1939 Plymouth;
    1-9  and
   1-10        WHEREAS, In December 1950, he entered the United States Air
   1-11  Force and saw duty at Lackland Air Force Base and in Amarillo and
   1-12  Louisiana; during his sojourn at Lackland AFB, he continued to work
   1-13  part-time for the Seguin Police Department seven days a week and
   1-14  rejoined the department as a full-time employee following his
   1-15  return to civilian life in December 1954; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, In March 1956, this respected officer began working
   1-17  as an investigator for the Southern Pacific Railroad but returned
   1-18  to the Seguin Police Department two years later and has remained a
   1-19  valued member of the force for the past three decades; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Named acting captain of the department in 1960, he
   1-21  was appointed captain of the traffic division the following year,
   1-22  in which capacity he served with the utmost distinction until
   1-23  November 9, 1971, when he was named chief of police; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Chief Schneider's years with the department have
    2-1  been distinguished by his professionalism, expertise, and strong
    2-2  dedication to the public welfare; his innumerable contributions to
    2-3  the betterment of the Seguin community have won him high regard,
    2-4  and his warmth and intelligence will be greatly missed by all who
    2-5  have been privileged to work with him; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby commend Chief Leroy Schneider of the Seguin
    2-8  Police Department for his exemplary record of achievement with the
    2-9  department and extend to him best wishes for many happy years of
   2-10  retirement; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for Chief Schneider as an expression of high regard by the
   2-13  Texas House of Representatives.
