H.R. No. 117 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly a 1-3 memorable occasion deserving of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, John Wesley and Alma Maye Haynes Woodard will have 1-5 the privilege of commemorating that momentous event in their lives 1-6 when they celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on January 29, 1-7 1993; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Woodard had to overcome a chaotic start 1-9 before settling into the stable and loving relationship they enjoy 1-10 now; they were married in Wichita Falls in 1943 by a minister who 1-11 was preparing to move, and their nuptials took place amidst stacks 1-12 of boxes and moving cartons, with the minister and his wife as the 1-13 witnesses; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Soon after they were married, Mr. Woodard answered 1-15 his country's call to arms in World War II, and their first 1-16 daughter, Sallie Ann, was born while he was away in service to his 1-17 nation; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Reunited after the war, the family moved to Mexico, 1-19 where Mr. Woodard worked for the Aftosa Eradication Project; when 1-20 they returned to Fort Worth, he found work operating a Texaco 1-21 service station, and the couple were blessed with the birth of 1-22 their second daughter, Nancy Jane, in 1949; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Woodard eventually founded his own business, 1-24 B & W Auto Sales, and he has operated a business in the same area 2-1 for the past 40 years; and 2-2 WHEREAS, In 1955, the Woodards welcomed a baby boy, John 2-3 Warren, into their family; the Woodard family life was centered on 2-4 their abiding faith and service to the Methodist Church, and after 2-5 worshiping at the College Heights Methodist Church and the Eastwood 2-6 Methodist Church, the family joined Handley United Methodist 2-7 Church, where they continue to serve their friends and neighbors in 2-8 that congregation; and 2-9 WHEREAS, In addition to raising three children and providing 2-10 a warm and nurturing environment for them, Mrs. Woodard also worked 2-11 outside the home to help support the family; this remarkable woman 2-12 worked for many years in the Sears garden shop and then worked as a 2-13 tax preparer for H&R Block for nearly 20 years; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The children are all married and have families of 2-15 their own now, and the additions of sons-in-law Don Churchwell and 2-16 Russ Bragg, daughter-in-law Leslie Woodard, and five beautiful 2-17 grandchildren have brought even more love and happiness to the 2-18 Woodards; they continue to enjoy family trips to Lake Whitney, 2-19 where they can spend many leisurely hours fishing, water skiing, 2-20 and enjoying each other's company; and 2-21 WHEREAS, For half a century, the Woodards have shared a 2-22 marriage filled with many happy times and cherished family 2-23 memories, and it is indeed proper that the members of this chamber 2-24 join the Woodard family, Ann and Don Churchwell, Nancy and Russ 2-25 Bragg, John and Leslie Woodard, and all of their children, Courtney 2-26 Churchwell, Holly Churchwell, Cameron Bragg, Sean Woodard, and 2-27 Sarah Woodard, in commemorating this noteworthy occasion; now, 3-1 therefore, be it 3-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 3-3 Legislature hereby honor John Wesley and Alma Maye Haynes Woodard 3-4 on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to 3-5 them warmest best wishes for many more years of continued 3-6 happiness; and, be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-8 prepared for them as an expression of high regard by the Texas 3-9 House of Representatives. 3-10 prepared for them as an expression of high regard by the Texas 3-11 House of Representatives. 3-12 Pitts 3-13 H.R.
