H.R. No. 119 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives joins with the 1-2 family and friends of Rosalinda Medellin Torres in mourning the 1-3 passing of this vibrant young woman, who died on January 3, 1993, 1-4 at the age of 24, in a tragic accident that also claimed the life 1-5 of her father, Doroteo Torres, and her mother, Rosa Medellin 1-6 Torres; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The first in her family to attend college, 1-8 Ms. Torres was an outstanding member of the senior class at 1-9 Southwest Texas State University; in addition to pursuing her 1-10 degree in computer information systems, she worked full-time and 1-11 was a preeminent leader in student affairs; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Respected by her colleagues at the Albert B. Alkek 1-13 Library, where she had been employed as a library assistant since 1-14 September 1990, this determined and disciplined student worked 1-15 full-time throughout her college years in order to finance her 1-16 education; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Despite maintaining a solid academic record and a 1-18 full-time work schedule, Ms. Torres gave generously of her time, 1-19 effort, and energy to many significant campus organizations; a 1-20 member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity, she 1-21 was active in the Association of Mexican-American Students, where 1-22 she served in many positions, including coordinator of the annual 1-23 Miss Mexican-American SWT pageant; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Recognized by her peers and professors to be an 2-1 exemplary scholar and student leader, Ms. Torres also was a member 2-2 of the search committee that helped hire a new vice-president for 2-3 student affairs at Southwest Texas State University; and 2-4 WHEREAS, This admirable young Texan looked forward to 2-5 graduate school and a bright future in her profession; as a senior 2-6 she was already enrolled in graduate-level courses, having been 2-7 selected to participate in the Summer Research and Graduate School 2-8 Preparation Program at her college in 1990; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Rosalinda Medellin Torres was a valued and beloved 2-10 member of the San Marcos community whose presence and 2-11 accomplishments greatly enriched the lives of all those around her; 2-12 though this extraordinary young woman will be profoundly missed, 2-13 she will long be remembered by the many people whose lives she 2-14 touched during her years on this earth; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rosalinda Medellin 2-17 Torres and extend heartfelt sympathy to her two brothers, Jose 2-18 Angel Medellin of Lockhart and Robert Medellin Torres of San 2-19 Marcos, and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it 2-20 further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-23 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-24 Rosalinda Medellin Torres. 2-25 Rosalinda Medellin Torres. 2-26 Linebarger 2-27 H.R.
