No. 121 73R3186 SDU-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Lanson and Dorothy Ditto of Houston for their exemplary 1-3 contributions to their family, community, and state; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Ditto are esteemed residents of Houston 1-5 who have consistently set an outstanding example for others through 1-6 a strong foundation of good citizenship and a commitment to 1-7 community service; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A native of Paducah, Kentucky, Mr. Ditto is a 1-9 proud naval veteran of World War II who distinguished himself in 1-10 the bitterly fought Guadalcanal and Solomon Islands campaigns; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, he and his 1-12 brother, Ben, joined their father in Houston and helped to turn a 1-13 local clothing store into one of the most successful and respected 1-14 businesses in the region, Norton Ditto; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Ditto also met his lovely bride-to-be, the 1-16 former Dorothy Wade, in Houston and the devoted couple were united 1-17 in marriage in 1948; a couple with firm ties to their community, 1-18 the Dittos are active members of the Bethel Independent 1-19 Presbyterian Church and have each given generously of their time, 1-20 energy, and expertise to benefit numerous worthy organizations in 1-21 Houston; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Ditto, who has served as a board member of the 1-23 Memorial Healthcare System since 1977, currently serves on the 1-24 board of trustees of The Memorial Foundation and is an active and 2-1 generous member of the Major Gifts/Planned Giving Committee; and 2-2 WHEREAS, This fine gentleman also has shared his valuable 2-3 insight and expertise with others on the board of directors of the 2-4 Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Retail Merchants Association of 2-5 Houston, and the Navy League; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ditto's accomplishments, while less public than 2-7 her husband's, have proved no less important; throughout the 2-8 couple's long and rewarding marriage, this gracious woman has 2-9 provided a loving and secure environment for her family, 2-10 emphasizing the Christian values that have so profoundly influenced 2-11 their lives; and 2-12 WHEREAS, The proud parents of two fine daughters, the Dittos 2-13 also take great pride and delight in the activities of their four 2-14 beloved grandchildren; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Throughout their lives together, Mr. and Mrs. Ditto 2-16 have contributed significantly to the betterment of their community 2-17 and have served as a source of joy and inspiration to their family 2-18 and friends, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition 2-19 and praise for their contributions in this regard; now, therefore, 2-20 be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby commend Lanson and Dorothy Ditto for their many 2-23 significant contributions to family, community, and state; and, be 2-24 it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-26 prepared for Lanson and Dorothy Ditto as an expression of high 2-27 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
