                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Linda Billings Davis will celebrate her 50th
    1-2  birthday on January 28, 1993, and to her family and many delighted
    1-3  friends this event promises to be a truly joyous and memorable
    1-4  occasion; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A native of Fort Worth, Mrs. Davis was born to Gwen
    1-6  and R. B.  "Bill" Billings on January 28, 1943, and remained in her
    1-7  hometown until Valentine's Day 1975, when she started a love affair
    1-8  with the enchanting city of Austin that continues to this day; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis has enjoyed a diverse and rewarding
   1-10  career that began more than 30 years ago, when she was hired as a
   1-11  file clerk for General Dynamics and worked her way up to a position
   1-12  with the company as secretary to the chief of logistics; her
   1-13  impressive background includes 20 years as a legal secretary, seven
   1-14  years as an oil and gas industry accountant, and several years as a
   1-15  commercial property investor and manager; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Much admired for her loyalty, diligence, and
   1-17  dedication to excellence, this valued employee currently serves as
   1-18  secretary to our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Huey McCoulskey;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Her work has enabled Mrs. Davis to take an active
   1-21  role in both the legal and the legislative process while raising
   1-22  her family; this outstanding Texan takes immense pride in the
   1-23  accomplishments of her two fine sons, Jon Christopher "Chris"
   1-24  Killian and William Adair "Chip" Killian, Jr., and her lovely
    2-1  daughter-in-law, Donna S. Killian; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Chris Killian will soon celebrate his 21st birthday,
    2-3  having defied the doctors who predicted a January 28, 1972, arrival
    2-4  date coinciding with his mother's 29th birthday; her son, Chip, who
    2-5  attended Texas Tech and was an honors student at Southwest Texas
    2-6  State University, serves the children of Texas as an educator and
    2-7  coach for the Florence Independent School District; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis was united in marriage to Ted Gaines
    2-9  Davis on April 28, 1984, her parents' golden wedding anniversary,
   2-10  at a ceremony in Austin; the couple enjoys an exceptionally
   2-11  rewarding marriage that has grown in love, devotion, and mutual
   2-12  respect with each passing year; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Inspiring all who know her with her energy and
   2-14  enthusiasm, she is an avid mystery series reader who buys up to 30
   2-15  books at a time and has even developed an index to track the books
   2-16  of her favorite mystery authors, such as Sue Grafton and Erle
   2-17  Stanley Gardner; this delightful woman also enjoys spending summers
   2-18  near the beautiful Pine River in Southwest Colorado; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, Always ready for new adventures, Mr. and Mrs. Davis
   2-20  hope to take the continental United States, Alaska, and Canada by
   2-21  storm in their 31-foot Airstream Travel Trailer, and she is
   2-22  especially looking forward to visiting the Smithsonian Institute in
   2-23  Washington, D.C.; above all else, however, Mrs. Davis eagerly
   2-24  anticipates the addition of grandchildren to her loving and
   2-25  close-knit family; and
   2-26        WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has been a source of
   2-27  inspiration and joy to those around her, and her love, generosity,
    3-1  and positive outlook have immeasurably brightened the lives of all
    3-2  who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
    3-3        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    3-4  Legislature hereby congratulate Linda Billings Davis on the
    3-5  occasion of her 50th birthday and extend to her warmest best wishes
    3-6  for many more happy and rewarding years; and, be it further
    3-7        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-8  prepared for Mrs. Davis as an expression of highest regard by the
    3-9  Texas House of Representatives.
