R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Catherine Thomas
1-2 Brumley, an esteemed citizen of Terrell, were deeply saddened by
1-3 her passing on December 25, 1992, at the age of 69; and
1-4 WHEREAS, This exceptional individual was born in Ennis on
1-5 August 22, 1923, to Joseph and Sarah Jones Thomas and attended
1-6 school in Felico and Dallas; and
1-7 WHEREAS, She moved to Terrell in 1946, having graduated from
1-8 the Madam Walker Beauty School, and obtained her beautician's
1-9 license and became the bride of L. B. Brumley, Sr., that same year;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Brumley continued to work as a beautician until
1-12 the death of her husband in 1966; she then began a successful
1-13 20-year career in nursing, working at the Silver Leaves Nursing
1-14 Home and Terrell State Hospital; and
1-15 WHEREAS, A woman with firm ties to her community, she was an
1-16 active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served in the
1-17 Senior Choir and the Mary Magdelene Mission Circle for many years;
1-18 and
1-19 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Catherine Brumley
1-20 will not quickly forget the special presence of this remarkable
1-21 woman; though she is gone from us now, her loving spirit will
1-22 continue to live in the hearts of the many people whose lives she
1-23 touched during her time on this earth; now, therefore, be it
1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Catherine Thomas
2-2 Brumley and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family:
2-3 to her sons and daughter-in-law, Lonnie Brumley, Lewis Brumley, and
2-4 L. B. and Clara Brumley, all of Terrell; to her daughters and
2-5 sons-in-law, Delbra and Willard Johnson of Terrell and Linda and
2-6 Carlton Poole of Lancaster; to her 13 grandchildren and five
2-7 great-grandchildren; to her devoted cousin, Mattie Mims of Terrell;
2-8 and to her lifelong friends, Erma Bell Green of Terrell and Laura
2-9 Lee Whitehead of Dallas; and, be it further
2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-12 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-13 Catherine Thomas Brumley.
