                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Paducah recently
    1-2  commemorated a century of contributions to the spiritual and social
    1-3  well-being of its community with a special centennial celebration
    1-4  on September 12-13, 1992; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1892, the First Baptist Church
    1-6  of Paducah has played a strong and active role in the lives of
    1-7  local citizens, and it has continued to experience steady growth
    1-8  with each passing year under the expert guidance of many fine
    1-9  pastors, including its present minister, Pastor Larry Millican; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The church's first building was destroyed by fire on
   1-11  Christmas Day, 1915; by July 4, 1917, a new, red brick building was
   1-12  completed at the corner of 11th and Richards streets, where the
   1-13  church remains today; that building later underwent extensive
   1-14  remodeling and served the members of the congregation well until
   1-15  1966, when it was demolished to make way for the construction of
   1-16  new facilities; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, On April 9, 1967, the congregation's dream came to
   1-18  fruition when services were held for the first time in the church's
   1-19  new building; since that time, the congregation has continued to
   1-20  add to the church's fine physical plant to better serve the needs
   1-21  of its growing congregation; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the First Baptist
   1-23  Church has been blessed by the spiritual guidance and leadership of
   1-24  many outstanding clergymen and the dedication and hard work of its
    2-1  members, who have always given generously of their time, talents,
    2-2  and resources to ensure its continued existence as a house of God;
    2-3  and
    2-4        WHEREAS, The church is indeed deserving of special
    2-5  legislative recognition for its 100 years of service as a place of
    2-6  worship; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby congratulate the First Baptist Church of Paducah
    2-9  on the 100th anniversary of its founding; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-11  prepared for the First Baptist Church of Paducah as an expression
   2-12  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
