                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Pearce High School tennis team recently reached
    1-2  the pinnacle of success in statewide tennis competition by
    1-3  capturing the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 5A
    1-4  state team tennis title at the UIL state championship tournament,
    1-5  held November 6-7, 1992, in Austin; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, These outstanding young athletes faced formidable
    1-7  competition from 240 high school tennis teams from across the
    1-8  state, but their physical training and mental   concentration
    1-9  enabled them to meet this challenge and become one of four elite
   1-10  tennis teams that vied for the title at the state  championship
   1-11  tournament; and
   1-12        WHEREAS,  Although a Pearce team had never before reached the
   1-13  state finals, these determined players faced their opponents with
   1-14  skill and confidence, and they emerged victorious with the state
   1-15  championship trophy and a remarkable season record of 24 wins, no
   1-16  losses, and only two ties; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Their inspiring performance at the tournament
   1-18  culminated a memorable season during  which their superb level of
   1-19  play distinguished them as the only undefeated tennis team in the
   1-20  state at either the Class 4A or 5A level of competition; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The tremendous success of the team can be attributed
   1-22  to the hard work and dedication of team members David Barnes, David
   1-23  Behr, Julie Behr, Allison Cavey, Sara Chaffin, Gretchen Crump,
   1-24  Adrian Gottschalk, Tylir Jimenez, Doug Lacy, Ron-Li Liaw, Jill
    2-1  Liberman, Michael McDearman, Karen Pollack, Amy Rosenburg, Justin
    2-2  Schmidt, Jeff Webb, and Elliot Weiss; these players put in
    2-3  countless hours of practice under the  expert leadership of Coach
    2-4  Joe Mounger, and the results of their spirited efforts have set a
    2-5  new standard of excellence for the Pearce High School tennis
    2-6  program; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, These exceptional student athletes have brought
    2-8  well-deserved acclaim to their school and community through their
    2-9  unparalleled performance at the state championship tournament;
   2-10  their perseverance, discipline, and enthusiasm represent the finest
   2-11  qualities of our state's young people, and they are indeed
   2-12  deserving of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Pearce High
   2-15  School tennis team on winning the UIL Class 5A state team tennis
   2-16  championship and extend to each team member warmest best wishes for
   2-17  continued success in all future endeavors; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-19  prepared for them as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-20  House of Representatives.
