No. 219 73R3634 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Harlandale Lions Club has recognized Terri 1-2 McBride as one of the highest-achieving students at Kingsborough 1-3 Middle School and has chosen to honor her for her exemplary 1-4 academic performance during the 1992 fall semester, and this 1-5 dedicated student is indeed worthy of highest praise and 1-6 recognition; and 1-7 WHEREAS, As Texas stands poised on the brink of a new 1-8 millenium, the education of our young people takes on a new and 1-9 critical importance; we are entering a global economy that demands 1-10 that each nation prepare its youngest citizens for the challenges 1-11 and competition of tomorrow, and the quality of their education 1-12 today will determine their success or failure in the future; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This shift from a national to an international 1-14 marketplace has caused American youths to face constant comparisons 1-15 with the best and brightest students all over the world, and it is 1-16 heartening indeed to see many young people, such as Miss McBride, 1-17 rising to this challenge and pushing themselves to succeed beyond 1-18 the expectations their parents and teachers have set for them; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In communities across Texas and across the nation, 1-20 concerned citizens are realizing that these students deserve the 1-21 utmost support in their pursuit of academic excellence, and many 1-22 businesses and organizations are implementing programs to seek out 1-23 and reward those students who, through hard work, perserverance, 1-24 and self-discipline, have attained the highest levels of scholastic 2-1 achievement; and 2-2 WHEREAS, In order to encourage middle school students to 2-3 perform to the best of their abilities, the Harlandale Lions Club 2-4 has implemented Project LEARN, the Lions Excellence in Academics 2-5 Recognition Night, which honors those students earning the highest 2-6 grade point averages during each grading period; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Terri McBride achieved this exemplary ranking among 2-8 the eighth grade students at Kingsborough Middle School, and in 2-9 doing so she has brought great pride and joy to her parents and 2-10 teachers; Miss McBride was one of five eighth grade students at her 2-11 school honored during the 1992 fall semester, and these outstanding 2-12 students deserve to be recognized as excellent role models for 2-13 their peers; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The talent, hard work, and dedication displayed by 2-15 these students are indicative of the high standards of achievement 2-16 that have been set by their teachers and fellow students, and many 2-17 of their peers will undoubtedly emulate their success; the 2-18 remarkable spirit and ability that these young people exhibit 2-19 ensure that the future of Texas is indeed in capable hands; now, 2-20 therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby honor Terri McBride for her outstanding academic 2-23 performance at Kingsborough Middle School during the past semester 2-24 and extend to her warmest best wishes for many more years of 2-25 continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-26 RESOLVED That an official copy of this resolution be 2-27 forwarded to Miss McBride as an expression of high regard by the 3-1 Texas House of Representatives.
