H.R. No. 224 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Bishop-elect James Anthony Tamayo of Laredo on the occasion of his 1-3 ordination as an auxiliary bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of 1-4 Galveston-Houston; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The son of Antonio and Maria Guadalupe Tamayo of 1-6 Corpus Christi, the bishop-elect was born in Brownsville and reared 1-7 in Corpus Christi and is the first member of his family to have 1-8 entered the priesthood; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This respected clergyman most recently served his 1-10 community of faith in the Diocese of Corpus Christi, heading the 1-11 church's 14-parish Western Vicariate and pastoring Laredo's Blessed 1-12 Sacrament Catholic Church; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Having grown up in the cross-cultural world of the 1-14 Texas-Mexico border region, Bishop-elect Tamayo brings to his new 1-15 position a wealth of experience that will greatly assist the 1-16 diocese in serving the spiritual needs of its large Hispanic 1-17 community; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Since the departure of Auxiliary Bishop Enrique San 1-19 Pedro from the diocese in September 1991, the diocese has struggled 1-20 to meet the demands of its devoted followers, and Bishop-elect 1-21 Tamayo's appointment will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the 1-22 many requests the diocese receives each day for a bishop's 1-23 participation; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure in the priesthood, 2-1 Bishop-elect Tamayo has offered strength and comfort to countless 2-2 individuals, giving generously of his time to promote hope and 2-3 understanding; as he celebrates his ordination, it is a fitting 2-4 time to honor this remarkable gentleman for his outstanding service 2-5 to the church and for his exceptional contributions to the many 2-6 people with whom he has shared his faith; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Bishop-elect James Anthony Tamayo 2-9 on the joyous occasion of his ordination as auxiliary bishop of the 2-10 Diocese of Galveston-Houston and extend to him best wishes for 2-11 continued success and happiness in meeting the challenges that lie 2-12 ahead; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Bishop-elect Tamayo as an expression of high regard by 2-15 the Texas House of Representatives. 2-16 the Texas House of Representatives. 2-17 Davila 2-18 H.R.
