H.R. No. 225
R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of the
1-2 Texas House of Representatives pause to solemnly note the passing
1-3 of Alberto Ziegler Cavazos, who departed from this earth on
1-4 February 3, 1993, at the age of 89, and to express our profound
1-5 sympathy to the family and friends of this fine gentleman; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Born on July 24, 1903, in San Antonio, Mr. Cavazos
1-7 was a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, where he will be fondly
1-8 remembered as a devoted family man, a kind and generous friend, and
1-9 an exemplary member of the community; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Cavazos lived a full and active life, enjoying a
1-11 rich and enduring relationship with his dear wife of 56 years,
1-12 Consuelo, who preceded him in death; with each member of the
1-13 couple's loving family, which grew eventually to include three fine
1-14 children and six grandchildren; and with the large circle of
1-15 friends and neighbors who were privileged to know and love him; and
1-16 WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he also
1-17 was a steadfast and conscientious employee who served his community
1-18 for many years as a federal civil servant, and he instilled in his
1-19 children the same appreciation of and dedication to public service
1-20 that he manifested in his career and in his community activities;
1-21 and
1-22 WHEREAS, He maintained a lifelong interest in civic affairs
1-23 and in the political processes that helped shape the community in
1-24 which he raised his family; he was especially gratified to see his
2-1 interest passed on to his son, the Honorable Eddie Cavazos, who
2-2 went on to serve the Corpus Christi and Coastal Bend communities
2-3 for more than a decade as a five-term member of the Texas House of
2-4 Representatives; and
2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Cavazos was more than merely interested in civic
2-6 affairs, however; he was actively involved in the life of the
2-7 community, giving generously of his time and energy as a volunteer
2-8 in community service projects and organizations; and
2-9 WHEREAS, An active participant in the Retired Senior
2-10 Volunteer Program, he also devoted countless hours as a volunteer
2-11 to the City-County Department of Public Health and Welfare, for
2-12 which he received well-deserved praise and recognition in the form
2-13 of a public commendation; and
2-14 WHEREAS, In his lifelong record of civic participation, and
2-15 indeed in all of his endeavors, Alberto Cavazos set an excellent
2-16 example for all of the people of Texas and proved himself worthy of
2-17 our respect and admiration; although his family and friends have
2-18 lost an irreplaceable source of love and comfort, his memory will
2-19 continue to inspire all those who were privileged to know him; now,
2-20 therefore, be it
2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-22 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alberto Ziegler
2-23 Cavazos and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
2-24 family: to his two sons, the Honorable Eddie Cavazos and
2-25 Mr. Albert Cavazos; to his daughter, Mrs. Grace Meeker; to his
2-26 grandchildren, Randy Cavazos, Celena Cavazos, Jennifer Cavazos,
2-27 Miguel Meeker, David Meeker, and Dana Meeker; and to all the other
3-1 family and friends who mourn his passing; and, be it further
3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-3 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
3-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-5 Mr. Alberto Z. Cavazos.
