                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of William Peacock, Jr., on January 26,
    1-2  1993, was a sorrowful occasion for the family and friends of this
    1-3  successful businessman and outstanding community leader; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born in Coldspring on September 28, 1925,
    1-5  Mr. Peacock spent his boyhood days working and playing beneath the
    1-6  shadows of the enchanting East Texas pines; his parents, William
    1-7  and Faye Peacock, instilled in him a love for this land, creating
    1-8  an attachment to it that, years later, would beckon his permanent
    1-9  return; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, After attending Texas A&M University and the
   1-11  University of Houston, Mr. Peacock loyally served in the U.S.
   1-12  Army's 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Division, in the South Pacific
   1-13  during World War II, gaining valuable experience that ultimately
   1-14  would contribute to the highly regarded leadership skills requisite
   1-15  for his future success in both professional and civic
   1-16  organizations; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, In 1957, while employed as a Harris County deputy
   1-18  sheriff, Mr. Peacock married the charming Peggy Anne Carswell;
   1-19  their shared love and mutual support were key ingredients for
   1-20  happiness and contentment throughout their life together; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, On leaving the Harris County Sheriff's office, he
   1-22  joined the Houston Export Crating Company, enjoying a long and
   1-23  rewarding association with the firm and serving as president of the
   1-24  company from 1961 until 1979, when he retired to his peaceful
    2-1  childhood home in San Jacinto County; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, In addition to his successful business associations,
    2-3  Mr. Peacock was selflessly devoted to numerous community
    2-4  organizations throughout his lifetime; he was actively involved in
    2-5  Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,
    2-6  Aggie Boosters, the Reagan Lodge of the Free Masons, the Arabia
    2-7  Temple of the Scottish Rite, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the
    2-8  Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Consular Ball, the
    2-9  Rotary Club of Houston, the "C" Club, the Wednesday Morning
   2-10  Breakfast Club, the Texas Society for the Prevention of Blindness,
   2-11  the Texas Department of Corrections Early Release Program, the
   2-12  Coldspring Historical Society, the Pumpkin/Evergreen Volunteer Fire
   2-13  Department, the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Department, and the
   2-14  San Jacinto County Lions Club; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, James William Peacock, Jr., gave tirelessly of his
   2-16  time and talent to the betterment of his community; though the
   2-17  satisfaction of his fellowship will be greatly missed, the many
   2-18  pleasant memories he leaves behind in the hearts of his loved ones
   2-19  will comfort and inspire them as they fondly recall his vigorous
   2-20  spirit and zest for life; now, therefore, be it
   2-21        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-22  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Peacock, Jr.,
   2-23  and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
   2-24  sons, William Peacock, III of Austin and Thomas Carswell Peacock of
   2-25  Houston; to his daughter-in-law, Sandra Grilliot Peacock; to Louis
   2-26  A. Battaglia; and to the many other relatives and friends of this
   2-27  honorable gentleman; and, be it further
    3-1        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
    3-2  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
    3-3  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William
    3-4  Peacock, Jr.
