H.R. No. 227 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Robert John Hogan on January 22, 1993, 1-2 at the age of 65, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this distinguished Texan; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The son of Edward Joseph and Roberta John Hogan, he 1-5 was born August 25, 1927, in Houston and went on to receive an 1-6 undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1949 and a law 1-7 degree from the University of Houston Law School in 1961; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A patriotic man and naval reservist, he answered his 1-9 country's call to active duty during World War II and later served 1-10 in the Korean Conflict, where he saw combat with the U.S.S. 1-11 Ingraham and was decorated with a Battle Star in recognition of his 1-12 valorous deeds; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Hogan's professional career was marked by many 1-14 outstanding accomplishments as well; in 1949 he began work with his 1-15 family's dry-goods store, the Hogan-Allnoch Company, and in 1961 1-16 entered the practice of law; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He also enjoyed a rewarding 20-year career with the 1-18 South Texas College of Law in Houston as a member of that school's 1-19 faculty from 1972 to 1992; widely regarded by students and 1-20 colleagues for his keen knowledge and utmost professionalism, he 1-21 earned tenure as a professor of law and served ably in that 1-22 capacity until his recent retirement; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Hogan 1-24 maintained a close affiliation with his undergraduate alma mater, 2-1 Georgetown University, and was active with the school's alumni 2-2 association as a member of the alumni board of governors and alumni 2-3 senate; in addition, he held positions as an officer and member of 2-4 the board of governors of the Georgetown Club of Houston and for 25 2-5 years chaired the Houston area alumni interviewing program for 2-6 undergraduate admissions; and 2-7 WHEREAS, He was a man of boundless energies who maintained an 2-8 active involvement in numerous organizations throughout the Houston 2-9 community; a board member and president of the Neighborhood Centers 2-10 Day Care Association, he also served avidly as a member of the 2-11 board of directors of the Houston Grand Opera Association and 2-12 contributed his insight and energies as an active member of the 2-13 State Bar of Texas, the JS Bach Society of Houston, and the Sierra 2-14 Club of Houston; and 2-15 WHEREAS, The great-great-grandson of General and Mrs. Sam 2-16 Houston, Mr. Hogan was heir to a proud family history, a reverence 2-17 for which he sought to impart to others as a member of the Sons of 2-18 the Republic of Texas and the Winedale Historical Center advisory 2-19 council; and 2-20 WHEREAS, He was a deeply religious man who received his 2-21 spiritual strength as a devout member of St. Michael's Catholic 2-22 Church and also served his church effectively as a lector; and 2-23 WHEREAS, A man of great vision, Mr. Hogan dedicated much of 2-24 his life to serving his community; though his special presence will 2-25 be missed by all who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in 2-26 the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives were touched by 2-27 this exceptional gentleman; now, therefore, be it 3-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 3-2 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert John Hogan and 3-3 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 3-4 devoted wife of 40 years, Mary Cecilia Burke Hogan; to his two 3-5 daughters, Marcy Hogan Greer and Margaret Lea Hogan; to his 3-6 brother, Eli Hogan; to his sister, Anne Hogan Irish; to his 3-7 granddaughter, Jennings Lea Greer; and to the other members of his 3-8 family; and, be it further 3-9 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 3-10 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 3-11 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert 3-12 John Hogan. 3-13 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert 3-14 John Hogan. 3-15 Eckels 3-16 H.R.
